Meeting not valid due to election oversight

MINUTES OF MEETING OF

LANGSTONE COMMUNITY COUNCIL

HELD AT LANGSTONE VILLAGE HUT MONDAY 12 MAY 2008

2. May 1st Elections result

Clerk advised the meeting that as a result of the oversight of not responding to the notice of election, the Returning Officer had only received one nomination. As a result the Community Council could not continue to operate. The May meeting, which should have also been the AGM could therefore not take place. A letter from the Returning Officer explaining this was read out by the Clerk.

The Clerk then continued to inform the meeting that he had spoken to the returning officer and had agreed that the names and addresses of the existing Councillors be emailed to Newport CC. The returning officer would then request the Chief Executive to use special powers the appoint these as temporary councillors. The Clerk was awaiting confirmation of this.

An additional election would have to be called, probably on 19 June, and again the Clerk awaited any documentation.

 

3. Police Report

It had been intended to receive a power point presentation by the police but there were none present.

4. Planning

There were no planning applications to consider.
