New kitchen & toilet for Village Hall
Phase 1 of the Village Hall refurbishment project has now been completed.

The Village Hall has been established as a community facility since 1950. It was erected by public subscription on ground donated by a local landowner. The original trust was granted charitable status in November 2004. The Trustees have started to modernise the existing buildings and have prepared a schedule of improvements which will result in a more attractive, energy efficient and legally compliant facility.

In Phase 1 the Trustees undertook to install a disabled users toilet and to upgrade the kitchen to current Environmental Health Department standards. These works, were accomplished using LVH’s own funds and a donation from Langstone Community Council. These works have now been carried out.

In Phase 2 we hope to tackle a number of issues. At present, the hall, hut and annexe are not energy efficient. Rotten walls and and an old roof in the hut has resulted in damage caused by damp to the interior. Old wiring needs to be replaced with energy efficient lighting and heating. New front doors, repairs to fire doors, refurbishment of the wooden floors and landscaping to the rear courtyard, plants and flowers for the grounds. Repairs to the main roof, facia and guttering are also required. The facility requires complete decoration. Curtains in the hall also need to be replaced or repaired. We also aim to purchase youth club equipment, induction loop and insulation. Funding has been provided by the Veolia Environmental Trust and a further generous grant from Langstone Community Council.

The adjoining hut is well past its sell-by date and we are indebted to the Wellspring Christian Fellowship for their generous offer to subsidise the provision of a new building. Wellspring are also active in providing assistance with decoration and numerous other activities.

The Village Hall is the only indoor community facility in the area. It is owned by the residents and used regularly by some 18 user groups.
