Langstone Village Plan
A further exhibition in the Village Hall has been arranged for the evening of Friday 17 October. Please come along to meet your community councillors and make your views known to them.

INTRODUCTION

Langstone Community Council has resolved to prepare a Village Action Plan based on the views of residents obtained through a questionnaire. This report summarises the responses to that questionnaire prepared and distributed throughout Langstone during the Summer of 2007. It is intended that this report will be used by the Community Council in preparing the Village Action Plan.

475 households completed and returned the questionnaire, this being approximately 30% of the total and representing 965 adults and 294 persons aged 17 or under. We understand that this is an extremely high rate of return for a poll of this nature and we consider that the views expressed should be taken seriously by the various levels of local and national government.

The report is divided into three sections

1) The individual question counts: These being the questions with multiple choice answers. Questions 11 to 14, which deal mainly with education provision, have been omitted due to anomalies in the analysis software.

2) Answers to Questions 41 and 66: These two questions requested open-ended comments from respondents, namely

i) If there are areas in Langstone in which you feel unsafe, where are they?

ii) Please list up to six things that you think are currently missing in the area and that you believe could improve the quality of life in Langstone.

3) Key figures for the 2001 Census: Included as additional information showing Langstone in relation to the City of Newport and the whole of Wales. This data is provided by kind permission of the National Statistics Office. In this section the figures for Langstone include the communities of Penhow and Llanvaches and therefore do not correlate excactly with sections 1 and 2.

It is anticipated that the responses to question 66 will be the main source of reference in formulating the Village Action Plan.
